Ups…

7. Kai Fights Her Way Back

The Women’s Intercontinental Championship has not gotten off to a good start. After winning the title last month, Lyra Valkyria hasn’t defended it once and only competed in singles action once, losing in an Elimination Chamber qualifier to Bayley last week.

That’s why the number one contender’s match between Dakota Kai and Ivy Nile from Raw Monday night rates positively. The match itself was fine, with Nile targeting Kai’s knee and Dakota persevering to earn a second shot at IC gold.

With the loss, Nile and the Creed Brothers have fallen short of Chad Gable’s directive to win gold, which could either factor into a storyline, or it could just be the way things go for a lower-card stable of losers. Until something changes with their booking, it’s hard to take them seriously.

That makes Kai winning and earning a rematch with Lyra – even though it will be another face-face matchup – a good outcome. Dakota is a likeable figure, and hopefully she and Valkyria will get plenty of time to shine.
