7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (23 Sept - Results & Review)
1. YEET!
The story between Bron Breakker and Jey Uso never really amounted to much more than two second-generation wrestlers with very different paths to singles stardom, but when they finally got in the ring Monday night, it was magic.
Truthfully, you can thank Jey and his years-long quest for a singles title as the basis for the drama, tension, and elation from the packed arena as the former tag specialist captured the Intercontinental Championship, his first solo title in 14 years on the main roster.
The buildup on the night was solid, with video packages, interviews, and backstage segments laying the groundwork that we might be in store for something special. In the ring, Uso and Breakker had pretty good chemistry throughout the match, measuring the action well and timing the bursts to get the most out of a fired-up crowd.
The closing minutes produced all the drama fans needed, with Bron going for his signature power moves, and Jey getting the same counter-spear and splash combo he did last week for a false finish before closing it out after a spear through the barricade put Uso back in the driver’s seat.
Breakker losing less than two months into his reign is certainly a choice, but WWE had to make a decision with Jey: either have him break through in the singles division or declare him a failure and send him back to the tag ranks because he’d no longer be credible. Bron is still in his formative years and can chalk the loss up to that growth. When he wins the IC title back, he likely will have it for a long time.
