2. McIntyre’s Descent Continues

Drew McIntyre continues to do some of the best character work of his career week after week. His slow descent into darkness has been handled almost perfectly, and Monday’s roller coaster ride was tremendous.

McIntyre came out to congratulate Seth Rollins for winning at WarGames, and then issued a challenge for a World Heavyweight Championship rematch, saying he learned his lesson during their big match at Crown Jewel. The Scottish Warrior said he was putting Jey Uso in the past and was ditching all sympathy in coming after Rollins.

But the moment Rollins told McIntyre that he already was slated to face Uso next week on Raw, Drew lost it and attacked Seth, showing that the madness is continuing and he can’t shake it, and in fact he’s losing control.

Sami Zayn’s attempt to rein McIntyre in was well-intentioned, but Drew instead turned his focus onto Sami for next week. At this stage, McIntyre is just lashing out at anyone in his path, anything perceived as an obstacle, with Jey being a trigger for his rage. While he’s still able to pull it down a notch, there’s coming a point where he’ll cross the Rubicon and go full-fledged heel, and that’s going to be terrifying.
