5. Cody Refocuses… Sort Of

Ever since Cody Rhodes lost at WrestleMania 39, he’s said he wants to focus on finishing the story, but it’s been one distraction after another: Brock Lesnar, the Judgment Day, the Judgment Day, and more of the Judgment Day.

But Monday night, with Rhodes’ team emerging victorious in WarGames against the Judgment Day, Cody turned his attention back to finishing the story. The American Nightmare declared his entrance into the 2024 Royal Rumble, looking to get back to Roman Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

That refocusing was welcome, but it was short-lived, as Shinsuke Nakamura made it clear that Rhodes was the person he was nebulously referencing in all of his video promos. Nakamura appeared in the ring and misted Cody, leaving him writing on the mat before leaving, setting up a decent interim feud for Rhodes before he enters the Rumble in two months.

This column has been adamant that Rhodes should have won at WrestleMania 39, and WWE certainly is stretching things out to get Cody all the way to WM 40 to (hopefully) finish the story against Roman. This feud is filler, but it should do just fine, and at least for the first time, there’s a clear path on the horizon for Rhodes.
