4. Wyatts Prevail In Debut
People’s mileage will vary when it comes to the Wyatt Sick6 and whether they love the spooky entrance and dark personae. The issue always was going to be how things translated once the bell rang, and Monday’s debut match could be classified as a modest success.
Dexter Lumis, Erick Rowan, and Joe Gacy were in there with the Creed Brothers and Chad Gable (a new group who ultimately took a complete backseat to making the Wyatts look good), so things stayed in motion and never got boring. The trio clearly had been working on some tandem offense and character-based moves, which helped.
Overall, the match was fine, with Rowan running wild with the hot tag and paying tribute to Luke Harper at one point. Lumis moved around like an actual wrestler rather than the stiff psycho he’s played for years. And Gacy was his usual solid self.
The challenge will be how they proceed in the weeks ahead, how they function as a group that wrestles regularly. Fans are clearly behind them, and it’s obvious that they’ve got some momentum here, but one week is easy to fake. The test will come in the weeks ahead.
