2. Corbin Reinvention #247 Forthcoming

If you missed that loud sound Monday night, it was the sound of the WWE gimmick machine rebooting so it could program a new gimmick for Baron Corbin.

The Modern Day Wrestling God lost another unimpressive match Monday night, this time to Dexter Lumis. This followed a loss to Johnny Gargano last week and a 7-second elimination at the Royal Rumble. The announcers made a point to hammer home that JBL was seriously disappointed with how Corbin had panned out recently as his protégé, foreshadowing (well, foreshadowing as well as WWE typically does) the loss and Bradshaw’s visible disappointment in Corbin.

Then we got the hammer with JBL backstage burying Corbin as useless, a human channel-changer and a stain on his Hall-of-Fame legacy.

What this means is that this ill-fitting gimmick will be shelved and we’ll see yet another reinvention of Corbin, or some sort of renewed focus for him meant to reheat him after a disappointing several weeks.

The common denominator to all of these reboots is Corbin himself. While he certainly has value and can be an asset, he never seems to adjust or really succeed in any one gimmick for very long (Lone Wolf, Raw GM, Sad, Happy). He just meanders from one to the other racking up wins and losses and getting ample TV time along the way.

Maybe they’ll figure out something that truly works for him this time. If not, you can bet they’ll reboot and try again… and again, and again.
