7 Ups & 5 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Homecoming 2021

5. Deonna And Chelsea Bound For Glory

A boring opening round for Deonna Purrazzo and Matthew Rehwoldt was gleefully forgotten about when they stepped up to Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona, whom they defeated to advance to the finals. It was Rehwoldt who got the pin there, utilising the same facebuster variation on Cardona that put Hernandez away. It's a fine match-ender, though it could perhaps benefit from being a tad snappier to give it that aura as a finishing move.

Nonetheless, the story here surrounded Deonna and Chelsea. When they locked eyes, it felt big. IMPACT surely realises this will be a compelling route for the future, with 'The Hot Mess' no doubt a future Knockouts Championship contender. They showed glimpses of that match's potential here. Their shared technical prowess was tremendous here.

It was key that Chelsea wasn't pinned for the ending fall to keep her in mind as a potential future challenger for 'The Virtuosa'. Cardona can take a pin for now. This was more about building up Chelsea a bit more. Had she taken the fall from Deonna here, you can automatically write her out of any major storylines. Let's see how IMPACT treats this going forward before dishing major praise upon it.
