The opening match of a major wrestling show is meant to set the tone for the rest of the night. It’s sole purpose is to get you invested for the remainder of your viewing experience. Brian Myers vs. Black Taurus achieved the opposite.
It simply wasn’t a hot opener. A technically sound match had it been in the middle of the card, this was nothing more than a series of rest holds, an added dash of Myers focusing on mouthing off and laying out Crazzy Steve, topped off with some Taurus excellence. Seriously, the guy is superb. His flying crucifix driver was sheer beauty, for example.
The former Curt Hawkins cheated to win yet again, putting a thumb in Taurus’ eye before hitting him with the Roster Cut. The right winner, sure, but did it need to go down this way? Not at all.
IMPACT’s booking of Myers has a simple formula; he gets himself into sticky situations, is made to look like a fool in the build to a somewhat marquee match, and then cheats to win said match. It’s excruciating to see Myers continuously suffering in IMPACT solely through his booking. Something like this is incredibly easy to fix.
