7 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (May 16)

5. Just Enough Smoke And Mirrors

Omos Bobby Lashley

It’s pretty clear that Omos still has a ways to go in his development as a wrestler, but WWE did a nice job hiding his weaknesses inside a steel cage Monday night.

Omos’ slow movements were offset by having a cage to occasionally bounce Bobby Lashley into. MVP and Cedric Alexander were able to provide enough interference to keep fans invested in the All Mighty and keep the match active and alive. If anything, they could have bounced Lashley around a bit more in the cage to sell Omos’ dominance, but this actually worked decently.

The finish – which saw Omos toss Lashley into the cage wall, the wall gave way, and Bobby roll to the floor for the win – was a cop-out and a redo of Roman Reigns/Brock Lesnar from a few years ago. But at the same time, Lashley was getting battered by three men despite being inside a cage, so escaping with the win isn’t all that bad.

And this most likely will set up one more match between the two at Hell in a Cell. Hmmm… a cell, you say…
