2. Street Profits Faltering

You wouldn’t think that a babyface tag team losing is a good thing, but if it serves a purpose, it can be a net positive.

The Profits have been a solid duo for several years now, but they haven’t sniffed tag gold in quite some time, and it doesn’t look like they’re destined to hold a championship anytime soon. At the same time, both Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are immensely popular and talented.

So what to do? Having them lose a couple matches – against the Bloodline to open 2023, in tag team turmoil, and then again Monday against the Judgment Day – puts a thought in their heads that maybe it isn’t clicking like it used to for them. Then you have Ford advancing to the Elimination Chamber to compete for the United States Championship, while Dawkins lost his qualifier.

Now you’re looking at questions of a “weak link,” or at least a reason for Montez to want to go it alone for a bit. You don’t need to book a Rockers-like breakup, just have them amicably separate to pursue singles glory because the tag deal isn’t working right now. There has to be a reason for the Profits to lose these high-profile matches all in the past six weeks.
