7 Ups & 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Nov 20)

3. The New Daniel Bryan

Remember last week, when we spoke about SmackDown's writing team deserving our trust when it comes to turning seemingly un-booable babyfaces heel? Segments like this are the reason why.

Daniel Bryan and the creative department have done a fantastic job over the past few days. Though there were face-like elements to Bryan's Survivor Series struggle, he acted the prick for much of his bout with Brock Lesnar. Denying the fans their "yes!" and "no" chants was a genius move, as was continually avoiding Lesnar in the early stages, attacking his limbs, and taking every shortcut in the book.

This continued on SmackDown, as Bryan claimed his turn was three years on the making. He was bitter towards the fans for rooting for AJ Styles so soon after his heroic return from retirement. They're fickle, and Bryan realised he didn't need their support, then claimed that he won in his Survivor Series defeat. Brock Lesnar beat the weakness out of him. Now, "the new Daniel Bryan" has emerged, and the only thing that matters is that he never gives up on his dreams again.

A great pay-per-view follow-up, this is exactly the kind of promo Daniel needed to cut last night. He came off bitter, twisted, and out of touch with reality, and we can't wait to see how the remainder of his feud with Styles plays out.
