7 Ups And 1 Down From NXT: The Great American Bash 2

7. Great American Thrash

We kick the evening off with a Street Fight, where Mia Yim takes on a walking cosplay of every girl I dated in university. Despite this rivalry rumbling on for weeks now, it took a backstage brawl (because of course it did) it set it up this week.

It's actually a testament to how well-layered the women's division is at present, as the fact these two currently feel a million miles away from the championship picture didn't lessen the stakes in this match at all. We buy that there's a rivalry here, we the motivation behind it, and we buy the fact that it's escalated into NXT's second-ever women's street fight.

Much like the Nox/Kai affair, this match was much better when it actually was a street fight, with the early, more technical exchanges looking a little sloppy. When the action spilled outside the ring, through the arena, and through a table, it was engrossing and brutal all at once. The brass knuckles into the steel chair spot, in particular, were excellent.

In the end picked up the win following what, after all the dinner table segments, probably needs to be called a takeout steel buffet. Candice pulling off a stunning a diving, swinging neck-breaker from the top rope onto about 10 Unforgiving Steel Charis™. Candice has been a bit of a parody figure since her heel-turn, but this victory marks her out as the real deal. A great opening.
