7 Ups And 1 Down From NXT: The Great American Bash 2

6. Great American Splash

A quick reminder, if you were looking for one, that The Great American Bash was a hastily thrown together two-night event that just about had enough TakeOver-quality feuds to fill two hours of television. Virtually everything we've seen thus far could have just as easily been on August's Boston show, but Bronson Reed vs Tony Nese could not.

Logic follows that this should have been a major dip in quality then but, to the credit of both men, it wasn't. Logic also dictates that a match PRESENTED TO YOU BY PAPA JOHN'S = BETTER INGREDIENTS, BETTER PIZZA should be pretty forgettable, but it definitely marks another major step forward for Bronson Reed who's done well to stick around following defeats to Cameron Grimes and Karrion Kross. Two TV wins on the bounce suddenly adds some excitement to him.

The match itself was fairly straightforward, Nese's vicious new persona saw him try to brutalise his bigger opponent before Reed made the size difference tell with a wince-inducing top rope splash. It's hard to make it work as a face when you're a Very Big Lad, but Reed's so likable and fun it works.
