7 Ups And 10 Downs From WWE Raw's Season Premiere (Sept 30)

2. Horrid Ending

So after pulling a bait-and-switch from the announced Universal Championship match pitting Rey Mysterio versus Seth Rollins, WWE then did a sports entertainment finish for its new main event match.

Rusev stepped up to challenge Rollins for the title, but their perfectly decent bout petered out when Bobby Lashley and Lana came out to distract the Bulgarian Brute with a make-out session on the stage.

After that went on for several minutes, the lights went out and The Fiend showed up to take down Seth Rollins (who had spent the entire Lashley-Lana-Rusev fiasco sitting on the floor instead of actually wrestling since the match was ongoing). Raw then went off the air with no conclusion to the match, though it’s safe to say Rollins won by DQ.

It was just an absolutely terrible ending to a Universal Championship match, and to Raw itself. If you were trying to hook viewers on a week where a new wrestling program was debuting… this wasn’t how to do it.
