7 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's NXT (Aug 26)

Wade Me Up, When September Starts!

I was only away for one week but, since I've come back, every single Thursday I have awoken to fight neither sight nor sound of AEW. Is it... it is all over? Did they close down? Has the Wednesday Night War been won!? Is this some utopian peacetime once again?

... Is this why Sidgwick's taken a week off??

Anyway, tramadol-induced fever dreams to one side, NXT returned unopposed for a second week running, as we all held our breath and awaited the inevitable fallout from Karrion Kross's shoulder scan. The brand has, when you think about it, been virtually cursed with most of its major titles this year, and another relinquishing would add yet another championship scramble to an already confusing 2020.

Elsewhere, two title matches that should have been on the TakeOver card were scheduled for TV this week, with both the Cruiserweight and Tag Team belts on the line. All of this, and the exciting announcement that Wade Barrett, my actual IRL bessie mate*, would be making a special appearance at commentary.

Roll-up, roll-up, pro-wrestling might actually be fun again!

*work acquaintance, at best
