7 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (Feb 17th)

1. Great Finish To Advance The Story

A double pin or draw type scenario is something that has to be presented in a very specific way for it to help advance the story and not come across like a cheap, screwy finish. NXT were in danger of this happening when the last No.1 Contenders match with Zayn, Joe and Corbin ended with co-winners. This week's match ended in a draw after a double pinfall. Fortunately, the angle was executed so well that it only added to the story. As soon as the referee( Drake Wuertz) made the pinfall, he noticed that both men had been pinned and immediately looked panicked. He didn't look like he knew how he should handle the situation. NXT General Manager William Regal then came out to see what was going on and in this tense and dramatic exchange to close the show, Regal told the referee he needed a number one contender, while Wuertz was telling Regal that he was calling the match a draw. Now, there's likely to be a final match with Zayn and Joe to determine the number one contender and this match and angle have gotten me more invested in seeing the showdown. Good booking will do that, as it makes you care about the wrestlers, the story and the performers' goals. You gotta love NXT when they pull off great moments of drama like this.
