7 Ups And 3 Downs From NXT TakeOver Brooklyn III

Downs...

3. Code Avoid

As a general rule, unless there is a major act or a major tie-in, live musical acts during a wrestling PPV are a no-no. And Code Orange opening NXT TakeOver is no exception.

While it’s better than a mid-show performance, the metal band opening the PPV was an instant deflation. This writer is admittedly not up on all the hot musical acts, but Code Orange should have at least sounded somewhat familiar, lest it generate a “WTF?” reaction and a muting of the TV.

When the band played Aleister Black’s entrance theme, that was a perfectly good use of the group, much like Living Colour playing out CM Punk at WrestleMania XXIX or Motorhead playing out Triple H on multiple occasions.

But kicking off a PPV with a group that a casual fan has to perform a Google search to identify? Not the best idea.
