Not to knock Tom Phillips, but if you watched previous TakeOver specials and then watched Saturday night’s event, you had to notice a difference.

Mauro Ranallo is a fantastic play-by-play announcer, and when paired with someone who isn’t yelling and competing with him (JBL) and instead is a knowledgeable and competent color commentator (Nigel McGuinness), you’ve got the makings of something pleasing to the ears. They made each match feel special, dropped some knowledge on fans (like the fact that STO actually stands for “Space Tornado Ogawa”) and helped build the drama around the near-falls.

Oh, and Percy Watson was there too.
