7 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE Extreme Rules 2022

6. Rousey The Right Call

Disappointing match aside, WWE got it right Saturday night with Ronda Rousey defeating Liv Morgan to recapture the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Rousey lost the title at Money in the Bank when Morgan cashed in her just-won MITB briefcase, then controversial lost a rematch at SummerSlam. A third loss would have been unfathomable for Ronda and her character and would have spelled trouble for her.

Winning the match and the title puts Rousey back on a path as the top woman heading into the fall and winter… and WrestleMania season. It might seem a bit silly to think like that, but you’re really just over three months away from the Royal Rumble, when a Becky Lynch Rumble win would put her on a collision course with Ronda.

That’s fantasy booking, but it’s really not that far-fetched. And it wouldn’t have been possible if Rousey had lost at Extreme Rules.
