7 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (August 27)
4. Women’s ‘Evolution’
Women’s wrestling has made tremendous strides forward in the past decade, but at a time when all the discussion is focused on the first all-women’s PPV, Monday’s wrestling was a bit of a setback.
Raw featured two women’s singles matches: Alicia Fox versus Natalya, and Sasha Banks versus Dana Brooke. Neither match made it past 2:30. That’s better than the old days of 30-second “matches” where the entrances were five times longer than the contest, but both matches Monday were more about angle advancement than anything else.
It’s not necessarily a knock against the angles or the fact they did this, but given that WWE is trying to sell the upcoming Evolution PPV, they should be conscious about this and not book both women’s matches on an episode as 150-second angles masquerading as matches.
