7 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 18)

2. Icon?!?

Apparently, WWE believes you can reach icon status in just three short years. And if you believe that, there’s a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

Rather than bill the match between John Cena and Roman Reigns simply as old generation versus new (which they did), the brainiacs on the writing staff decided to have the announcers repeatedly refer to both men as icons of WWE. While Cena absolutely qualifies as an icon – 16-time world champ during a 15-year career, along with multiple United States Championship reigns – how in the hell does Roman meet that test?

Reigns is arguably the biggest fulltime star in WWE today, having main-evented the last three WrestleManias. But that in no way justifies his being classified as an icon.

When you start throwing terms like that around and you grossly misuse it, you deserve to be called out. Consider the writers put on notice for this one.
