7 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE Crown Jewel 2021

3. A Heavyweight Slugfest

Big E Drew McIntyre

Hats off to Drew McIntyre and Big E for delivering a different kind of WWE Championship match at Crown Jewel.

The two didn’t waste a lot of time with a slow burn and buildup to a climax. They got into gear and started swinging for the fences. The cool narrative throughout this match was E and Drew countering each other’s signature moves with their own signature spots. McIntyre cut off E’s splash with a belly-to-belly throw. E countered Drew’s Futureshock DDT with his belly-to-belly and splash. The Claymore was turned into a powerbomb and Stretch Muffler submission.

Each man kicked out of the other’s finisher, but it wasn’t overdone. It felt like two heavyweights just throwing their biggest bombs at each other until the other couldn’t get up, which in the end was McIntyre eating the pinfall after a second Big Ending.

Nice match, and great to see Big E get a convincing win in a real battle.
