7 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE Raw (30 Oct - Review & Results)

4. The Week Of Video Packages

Considering how much people criticize AEW and WWE for not doing a better job of introducing characters, their backstories or motivations, it might seem counterintuitive to object to Raw’s reliance of video packages Monday night.

But overkill is a very real thing, and WWE might have pushed the envelope with a litany of videos to highlight wrestlers, advance storylines and hype upcoming matches. On one show, they aired videos for #DIY, the Creed Brothers, Drew McIntyre, Candice Le Rae, Xia Li, and all five wrestlers vying for the Women’s World Championship,

Individually, the majority of these vignettes did their jobs in promoting wrestlers and their matches. But collectively, it was a lot, especially when you consider three of the “introductory” videos were for wrestlers who have been on the main roster for more than a year.

This was just a bit too much. If WWE was going to use five videos to hype the women’s title match, another to introduce the Creeds and one more to sell McIntyre’s motives, then the others should have been punted or aired earlier.

It’s also arguable that if WWE felt it necessary to broadcast videos introducing fans to #DIY, Candice and Xia, then that means they did a terrible job building them up during the past year, so that alone should count as a strike against the company.
