7 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (March 9)

5. What’s The Point Now?

So Riddick Moss is now apparently just defending the 24/7 Championship in regular matches on Raw.

What? Wait, why? Huh?

Moss defeated Cedrick Alexander in a match Monday night, defending the title he’s now held for a record 29+ days. It’s at least his third “traditional” title defense, and it makes this entire situation baffling.

The 24/7 title was unveiled as a less brutal cousin of the old Hardcore Championship, meaning that it could be defended anywhere, anytime. That resulted in guys like R-Truth, Drake Maverick, Mike Kanellis and Jinder Mahal having hilarious adventures with the title, trading it back and forth on a golf course, on a plane, in a hotel bedroom and even in a doctor’s office. Celebrities would win the title for a hot minute by rolling Truth up, only to lose it back to him.

It was a fun adventure, and some of the segments were among Raw’s most entertaining moments. But now, Moss is solely defending the title in regular matches, thus negating the entire “24/7” concept. It’s basically the modern-day European Championship – a tertiary title for lower-card wrestlers to fight over, without the one redeeming quality that the 24/7 Championship had: comedy.

LAME.
