You can be forgiven if your immediate reaction to Dean Ambrose turning on Seth Rollins just moments after an emotional victory for the Raw Tag Team Championships was one of anger, frustration and confusion.

That was the entire point.

On a night when their Shield brother Roman Reigns announced he was stepping away to battle leukemia, Rollins and Ambrose winning the tag titles seemed like the fairy tale ending we needed on Raw.

Instead, Ambrose hit a Dirty Deeds DDT on Rollins mid-celebration and proceeded to pummel him for several minutes, hitting another DDT on the exposed floor. It was a heel turn and beatdown that had been telegraphed for a while, but seemed to be put off with Reigns’ announcement Monday.

That’s also why it worked so well. Fans were in total shock and even angry about it. That’s when you know you did something right.
