7 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 14th)

7. Yellow Is The New Pink

Let€™s be clear: In no way is this being a negative meant to be critical of WWE raising $600,000 through Connor€™s Cure to fight pediatric cancer. That is an extremely noble effort and the company deserves kudos for this charity work. However, knowing that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this means we€™re in for two straight months of WWE patting itself on the back for how awesome it is for fighting against some form of cancer. This month, the middle ring rope is yellow, and next month, it will likely be pink again. We€™ll have to endure testimonials and packages that take you out of the moment, breaking the €œfourth wall€ of the wrestling universe. We saw this Monday night, with heels Stephanie McMahon and Triple H plugging Connor€™s Cure and wearing the bracelets. There€™s an easy way to get around this: Put the package about WWE€™s charity work right at a commercial break and don€™t have your announcers shill it live in-between wrestling segments. It would separate things ever so slightly and make the transition a little less jarring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKXMztKBHvY And before someone says, €œFans are smart enough to separate fiction from reality,€ ask yourself if any of your other favorite shows have actors break character in the middle of the program to plug a charity. Imagine a villain in your favorite program cutting an aside about helping fight breast cancer. It would never happen anywhere else, so why here?
