Regardless of how it ended, WWE Champion Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins put on a hell of a show to close out Monday Night Raw. Anytime you get a “Let’s go Rollins/Let’s go Ambrose” chant, you know you’re onto something.

The two former Shield members gave effective retro-type promos, with Rollins tracing the Shield’s old entrance path through the stands, down the steps and to the barricade, while Ambrose used a handheld camera backstage to cut his promo. Both men got their points across effectively and directly, without doing a big dance.

And then they backed it up in the ring with a match that had a slow burn up until Rollins hit a powerbomb into the barricade outside, rolled Ambrose in and quickly hit a frogsplash… for a long 2 count. From there, the two traded moves and counters leading up to that fateful superplex. It showed that both men are capable of main-eventing and captivating fans, and it set expectations high for Sunday’s triple threat.

And yes, Roman Reigns will be there.
