7 Ways WWE Can Book Free Agent John Cena

3. Special Attraction Status

If Cena’s schedule is only going to shrink ahead of his eventual retirement from the wrestling industry (as has been suggested), the best option could be to transition him into an Undertaker-esque role. No, that doesn’t mean giving him a gong, hat, and long black trench coat, but transform Cena into a unique special attraction, who rarely shows up outside of big occasions, and only competes at the highest level when he’s around.

This would only require a slight adjustment on Cena’s current role, but if the man himself doesn’t want to work a busy schedule anymore, it could be a good option. If the company treat every Cena appearance like a special occasion, everyone he works with will benefit, and the lax schedule should eliminate the “shoved down our throats” argument once and for all.

The stumbling block here is that Cena isn’t even as close to being as beloved as The Undertaker was. He remains a divisive presence on the card, but while his critics are still vocal, their number is gradually decreasing. As Cena drifts further from the main event title picture, his presence becomes a lot easier for the detractors to stomach, with increasing volumes starting to realise what an asset he has been to the company.
