SmackDown Live's invasion of Monday Night Raw fired the first shot in the war between both brands heading into Survivor Series on 19 November. That's how WWE would like fans to think of the story they're presenting, but there's an air of 'been there, done that' about the pay-per-view's entire hook.

Worse, the WWE Champion vs. Universal Champion match is lifeless. What exactly is at stake between Jinder Mahal and Brock Lesnar hasn't been explained on television yet, and there's a worry it won't be before the show airs. In effect, WWE are asking fans to get hyped for a series of meaningless Champ vs. Champ matches and the familiar 'Us vs. Them' tale.

This is not good. We're getting close to WrestleMania season, which is typically the most exciting time of the year to be a wrestling fan. With the way the show's being booked, what happens at Survivor Series will be inconsequential 24 hours later and forgotten completely come 'Mania.

Nobody wants you to fail, WWE, but this is pretty hard to get pumped for...
