There were a lot of reasons why John Laurinaitis should have worked as the Raw (and later Smackdown) GM when he was in charge of things from October 2011 to June 2012. The "People Power" thing was so over the top and silly that he earned some genuine heel heat from it, but the problem was he came off as such a bumbling idiot from the start that fans just didn't buy into him. That was the gimmick in some ways. In other ways, he just wasn't a good talker. It was also a terrible mistake to book him in a PPV main event match against John Cena just as a way to turn Big Show heel. It was so boring. Then when Cena beat Big Show in another really boring match that almost put me to sleep as it was going on, Laurinaitis was fired as the Raw GM. We've barely seen his assistant David Otunga since then. At least Eve Torres in a business suit was a benefit of the Laurinaitis regime. They made such a big deal of Team Laurinaitis beating Team Teddy Long at WrestleMania 28 for control of both shows and then a couple of months later they fired the guy. It was proof that there really were no long term plans for him. He was actually getting good by the end of it, but they didn't book him well for long enough. When the biggest threat he could make was saying things like "don't make me take off my jacket" it just shows that it didn't work.
