2. Fatal 4-Way (June 20, 2010)
If you haven't already noticed, June isn't the strongest month for WWE pay-per-views. It caused WWE to switch up their PPV scheduled several times from 2008 to 2013 before finally settling on Payback. The aforementioned Capitol Punishment and The Bash events were failed experiments, but were no worse than 2010's Fatal 4-Way. The theme of the show saw the two world championships defended in Fatal 4-Way matches. Yes, that was the big selling point of the show. Fatal 4-Way matches can be fun at times, but when overdone, they grow tiresome. To hold three of them in the same night was a bit excessive, especially none of them were all that memorable. The night saw three titles change hands, but even then the event was forgotten by fans within weeks. Alicia Fox won the Divas Championship from Eve in a match no one cared about, Rey Mysterio won the World Heavyweight Championship from a poorly booked Jack Swagger, and Sheamus captured the WWE Championship from John Cena... before running away from The Nexus to close the show. Whoever thought a PPV built around Fatal 4-Way matches in 2010 was poorly misguided. It ended up doing a disappointing 148,000 buys. The fact the event ended 25 minutes before the top of the hour was also mind boggling and left viewers wanting more. Needless to say, Fatal 4-Way was (thankfully) not brought back the following year.
