7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (Apr 16)
7. The SmackDown Women’s Roster
Paul Heyman made ECW a memorable promotion partly because of his motto of "accentuating the strengths and hiding the weaknesses." This week, WWE went out of their way to show one of their bigger weaknesses and made sure everyone knew how bad things are.
Shane McMahon came out on SmackDown and told "all" of the women in the locker room to come out. And so they did. All four of them. When you have that few competitors in your division, it doesn't really mean much to be the champion of it. Simple mathematics declare it's incredibly easy to get a title shot, because there are so few available challengers. This is all on WWE for not hiring more women, as the numbers that were shown felt embarrassing. Actually, hold on...there's six on the roster now? Well, that changes everything!
The segment got worse when the return of Tamina was used to put over...Ric Flair? Shane was trying to pull a fast one on us with his set-up, and poor Tamina was merely used to tease Charlotte. Also, maybe they shouldn't bring up Tamina's dad? I mean, I know Vince was a big fan of him, but there's that whole pesky murder thing he was about to go on trial for. Probably something they shouldn't even be alluding to with all their other non-murder controversies going on.
Really, the women were let down in this post-WrestleMania world. Asuka or Ember Moon would have made either division more interesting, but Nia Jax's victim heading over to SmackDown and being joined with another woman who knows roughly four wrestling moves isn't any sort of revolution.
