7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (Apr 23)
1. It Was Too Good To Be True
Impact Wrestling has made some positive changes in this new era. The vignettes are among the best they've ever done, the lighting is better, and Low Ki is back and wearing a badass Agent 47 outfit from Hitman. But the most glaring, audibly horrifying problem they have is their continued reliance on Josh Mathews as one of the voices of their show.
I've been betrayed before in wrestling. I've seen John Cena and Steve Austin fired from WWE, only to show up the night on Raw. I witnessed Disco Inferno lose a match where losing meant he could no longer dance, but then he kept danced anyway. As we've learned, retirement matches, in general, are largely ignored, but all of that just kind of comes with the territory. However, Impact royally f***ked up by bringing back Mathews after having him say he'd leave the commentary booth last week if his team lost. He was gone exactly one televised hour before inexplicably coming back and bringing the show down. I took this one personally!
For fans not watching Impact, imagine Michael Cole at the height of his obnoxiousness as a heel announcer. Then throw in JBL yelling "We got ourselves a flying *fill in the blank*" 40 times a show and then mix in Byron Saxton too. Add them all together and they still aren't half as obnoxious as Mathews.
Instead of Impact ending on a hot note with the X Division finally showcased in the main event, and the return of Ki, the final shots were of Jeremy Borash punching his co-host in the face. Sure, he lived out a lot of people's dreams, but absolutely nothing good can come from it. There's no angle that could possibly justify how much the show has been brought down due to their non-stop arguing.
Roughly 300,00 people watch Impact these days, that means roughly 300,000 people are watching the show on closed captioning. There's just no other way to make it through otherwise.
Time to kick out.
