6. Lana’s Curtain Call?

What a weird match this one. In the past, Lana has picked up some heat backstage for various infractions. Did she piss somebody off again? Judging by her match against Naomi, it sure seems management has given up on her as an active wrestler already. Not since Emmalina has someone received so many vignettes with so little payoff (and before that perhaps Mordecai...then Beaver Cleavage...then Seven in WCW).

The story in play with Lana was silly from the start. Her pay-per-view match was designed to show she’s actually a better wrestler than anyone believed she would be. After all, she lasted 7:30 against Naomi and almost beat her. Between Sunday and Tuesday she lost all her fighting abilities and experience points. Even as she made her way to the ring, the commentary team talked up how shockingly good she was at Money in the Bank. That was quickly tossed away. Naomi squashed her. She has no more Phoenix Downs.

It may not be a huge loss here. Lana was no Charlotte in the ring, but they already knew that. In fact, she seems to have exceeded the very low expectations that were placed in front of her. So what gives? Well, that's not something that will likely ever be cleared up. It's almost as if this entire excursion was a bit of a waste of time.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
