7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (July 2)
7. Happy Slammiversary!
This edition of worst of the week will be more Impact/GFW/TNA/NWA-TNA/Dixie's Old Playland/Jeff Jarrett "R" US heavy than usual, due to their big news and the fact their second biggest (by default) pay-per-view of the year is upon us.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem Impact was aware of that fact, so they ended up scrambling to deliver a last ditch effort to convince people to buy the show. You know, the event which only costs four times the amount of the WWE Network! This is why the Mumbai Cats were brought in. They're masters of the hard sell.
Their overall effort was bad. The best feud the company has built all year has been Davey Richards vs. Eddie Edwards. They have a match at Slammiversary, and yet, two of the competitors in the bout haven’t been on TV in a month. Angelina Love and Alisha Edwards weren’t flown out to India. They just disappeared from the angle. Scott Steiner wasn’t brought along either. We had to settle for quick cameo via FaceTime a few weeks back to get our Poppa Pump fix. The only wrestler on the planet who can get away with so little time on TV is Brock Lesnar, yet Impact did it with half their roster in the build up to their big show.
Hopefully they're able to get that streaming service off the ground, because asking people to pay so much money for these events is no longer a feasible option. You'd like to think they'll put more effort into Bound For Glory, but they had months to make Slammiversary feel special. It's best not to get your hopes up.
