7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (June 18)

7. Neurotic Zayn Returns!

Sami Zayn Nakamura A J Styles
WWE

A conspiracy theorist might say that Sami Zayn's portrayal is designed to bury the man. It's as if he personally offended Vince McMahon in his own home. Perhaps he invited himself over and sat on his couch...naked. But then, you'd have to ignore decades of other wrestlers being used in completely baffling ways as well. So it's more likely that management just doesn't get his character.

Right now, Zayn is the most annoying man in WWE. He has leapfrogged Mojo Rawley in that respect and has grabbed the brass ring of "get off my TV!" from him. Mojo now feels like an actual human being and Zayn is a guy who Woody Allen would tell to turn down his neuroticism by half. His recurring gag of being neurotic and trying to get his teammates onboard wasn't funny the first time they did it and that ska cap wearing of a dead horse keeps getting beaten.

Not only did it drag Sami down this time but he brought Nakamura and A.J. Styles down along with him. Neither of those guys should be involved in bad comedy like this. Much like Goldberg having to wear a Goldust wig when he first entered the company years ago, Nakamura has now experienced his own painful induction into WWE's campy comedy routine. It's not a good fit. Making a potential top babyface look like an idiot and then have his two partners look at him like an idiot is simply a waste of TV time.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
