7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (June 4)

7. Spud’s Return

Spud And Swoggle
Impact Wrestling

Having a good guy and a bad guy in a wrestling angle shouldn’t be considered passé. Usually, it’s the only way stories really make a lot of sense and get people invested. Not always, of course, but it’s the most tried-and-true formula used for over the past 100 years in the business.

A few weeks ago Swoggle was bullying Rockstar Spud for absolutely no reason. That made Swoggle the heel. Spud accidentally pulled down his pants and was violently beaten with a hammer for it (we've all been there).

On Impact this past week, Swoggle suddenly began acting like the face, as he was politely hanging out with the crowd and harassing Josh Mathews along with them. Everyone was having fun! At least they were until he was nearly beaten to death by a hammer. If nothing else, the hammer shot to the balls likely ensure he’ll never have another kid.

What the hell is creative going for here?

Vince Russo is long gone from the promotion (though with Impact you can never be quite sure of that) but this angle seems like it's directly from a journal he may have left in a desk in the Impact Zone. It’s not funny. It makes no sense. It also undercuts anything on the show that is actually supposed to be hardcore.

After the Aron Rex debacle, and then being turned into a ring announcer, Spud just can’t catch a break.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
