5. The Tale Of Mickie

It’s kind of tough to be a wrestling fan at times. We get so excited about seeing former wrestlers come back, and yet, it almost never lives up to our expectations.

Just over six months ago, the thought of Mickie James returning to WWE was exciting. You could picture great matches with her and Charlotte, Bayley and Sasha Banks in your mind. It would have been easy to have her play the old psycho character once more or to cast her as the veteran who is out to prove she hasn’t lost a step. And in this alternate reality, she wouldn’t lose every match in a manner of minutes.

This week on Raw, Mickie battled Alexa Bliss and it meant absolutely nothing. Never mind the fact that Bliss is the one who brought her back into the company as part of a storyline. Also never mind that there are less than 10 women in the entire division, meaning each one basically needs to be protected. Bliss won. Mickie lost easily and now that seems like the end of her story.

Mickie will be back, but if they ever want her to mean something, it’s going to take months worth of careful planning, strategic wins, and a compelling feud to get people to actually buy into her again. You know, just like they did with Jinder Mahal.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
