7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (May 7)

3. Painfully Unfunny

"Why did he do it? Why me? I never meant to pull his pants down." -Rockstar Spud

Okay. For starters...that's pretty funny. Last week I gave Swoggle vs. Spud a big old miss here, but this week Spud's over-the-top video was pretty entertaining. To give Impact some credit, they went all in on the absurdness of a man attacking another man with a hammer because his pants were accidently pulled down. It would have been so much better, though, without the needless addition of pain pills for a gag.

In professional wrestling, you probably shouldn't make fun of a few things on-air: someone falling from the ceiling, someone killing themselves (though WWE did that with Tim White many times over), anything Chris Benoit related, and lastly, someone relying on pain pills to get through the day. Over the past 20 years, we've watched as one wrestler after the next made headlines for dying way, way too young. It can make you wonder why you watch at all sometimes.

Keep in mind, this is basically a wrestling exclusive thing. Showing footage of a man needing pills on almost any other show would probably work as a joke, but in wrestling, far too many "cast members" have met their end because of their addictions. It was likely just a bit of negligence on Impact's part, but it really shouldn't have been written into the script.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
