7 Worst WWE Title Reigns Of 2017
3. Randy Orton - WWE Champion (April 2 - May 21)
This was Randy Orton’s ninth WWE championship reign, and one nobody wanted to see.
Luckily for them...?
The Viper is as smooth as ever in the ring, but his return to the top of the mountain at WrestleMania brought an early end to what should have been a long tenure for Bray Wyatt.
As Wyatt’s acolyte, Orton had found a much more interesting role than the bland babyface who would dethrone ‘The Eater of Worlds’. Considering the long build that they gave it, this feud should have worked - but WWE pulled the split six months earlier than they should have.
As discussed in Wyatt’s own entry on this list, their WrestleMania match was little more than cheap parlour tricks, and their non-title House of Horrors bout was equally unwatchable.
The silver lining we were promised from Orton’s victory was a dream match against AJ Styles, but instead, he dropped the title to Jinder Mahal at Backlash, after only 49 days.
