7 Wrestlers Who Appeared In Comic Book Movies

Swapping the squared circle for the film set.

Comic book movies and professional wrestling are two staple parts of the cultural diets of a large chunk of WhatCulture's readers - so what could be more apt than an article that combines the two? The two forms of entertainment have a number of obvious parallels - most obvious is the fact that they consist of heroes/babyfaces and villains/heels - and it is, therefore, quite unsurprising that certain individuals have partaken in both. Indeed, over the years, wrestlers have moved in to acting on an increasingly regular basis - starting most prominently with the immortal Hulk Hogan starring in the likes of Rocky III, No Holds Barred and Suburban Commando in the 1980s and early 1990s, followed shortly by the likes of Rowdy Roddy Piper and The Undertaker. Of course, these days, WWE has its own production company and that has seen the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rob Van Dam and Adam "Edge" Copeland starring in movies in recent years. However, only a small group of wrestlers have made the transition from professional wrestling to comic book movies - and that's what this article is going to be about. Playing characters ranging from unrecognisable costumed monsters and brutish henchman to nameless extras and alien heroes, wrestlers have been popping up in comic book movies more and more - and it's a trend that stands to continue in the future. On that note, here are seven wrestlers who appeared in comic book movies...

Honourable Mention: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

While Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is yet to actually star in a true comic book movie, he in constantly being linked with a number of potential roles in future instalments and that's why he finds himself getting an honourable mention here. Green Lantern John Stewart, Black Adam, Lobo and even Black Panther - the Rock has been linked with a wide variety of roles that he could feasibly play and his casting would undoubtedly go down well with audiences, regardless of the role, thanks to his ever-increasing popularity. He has, of course, starred in the G.I. Joe franchise, which is kind of a comic book movie, and it's really is only a matter of time before he finds himself being recruited by the likes of DC or Marvel. And now on to the actual list...
