7 Wrestlers WCW Gave Up On

WCW gave up on Dale 'KISS Demon' Torborg's WCW push the very moment they were no longer contractually obliged to it.

The product of Eric Bischoff's increasingly debilitating self-indulgence, The Demon emerged amidst hubris in 1999 as part of a deal which saw Gene Simmons' aging rockers ("the greatest band in the world!" according to Tony Schiavone) slaughter a segment of Nitro. For the use of his likeness, the expy was guaranteed a main event PPV contest, and there was to be a number of other demons representing the other band members.

The achingly terrible 'Warriors of KISS' project was canned alongside Bischoff, the only man - in the world, not just in the boardroom - who liked the gimmick. Shortly after the KISS concert drew one of the lowest ratings in Nitro's history, Easy E was dismissed, before the Demon could even make his in-ring debut. Yet WCW still had a deal to honour. The Demon was haphazardly plugged into a 'Special Main Event' against The Wall at Superbrawl - actually the fourth match on the show - and after being defeated, was quickly and quietly relegated to the bottom of the card.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
