The first and to this day only Triple Threat Hell in a Cell match took place at the 2011 event, and saw WWE Champion John Cena defending against Del Rio and CM Punk.

At Night of Champions the month previous, John Cena defeated Del Rio, boosting his title reigns to ten. CM Punk was added to the mix since Del Rio had beaten Punk for the title at SummerSlam, however Punk was yet to get his rematch due to being preoccupied with Triple H. If this is all sounding familiar you were there to witness first hand the hottest angle of 2011, the Summer of Punk, melt like ice cream on a hot August day.

Like in the last entry having Cena face Punk without the addition of Del Rio would have been so much better, the two going at it in Hell in a Cell would have been a great way to add a sequel to their blockbuster match at July's Money in the Bank PPV match that same year. Instead what we got was a Del Rio victory, winning the title back just a month after losing it making it abundantly clear that the Cena title win was just another reign on his way to tieing Ric Flair's 16 World Championships record.
