7 WWE Royal Rumble Cliches We'll Definitely See This Year
1. Half-Hearted Elimination Attempts
Has any Royal Rumble competitor in history ever managed to eliminate an opponent by standing them up in the corner of the ring and then slowly trying to hoist the lower half of their body up and over the top rope? Regular viewers will know that most eliminations tend to occur a little more spontaneously than that, but it doesn't stop the wrestlers from practising the patient approach.
It adds very little to the viewing experience - your eyes are generally drawn to the centre of the ring where the most recent entrant, fresh from the locker room, is clearing house with a series of clotheslines - but it is necessary to keep up the pretence of the match format. Sort of like when the guy who isn't supposed to take the title tentatively climbs up the ladder as though they have an intense phobia of heights of around ten feet.
