7 WWE Stars Harmed By Feuding With John Cena

John Cena is the biggest name in professional wrestling today. Regardless of who may hold the WWE World Championship, Cena is the number one guy. He pushes the most merchandise, his face shows up more than others and whether you love him or loathe him he is currently the most recognisable individual who resides full-time in this wacky world that we love so much.

As such, getting the chance to work a program with Big Match John is an incredible opportunity for any young heel. The matches and promos that build to the physicality are guaranteed to be of the highest profile. For those that are relatively new to the roster it is a real 'sink or swim' moment, a test of what they are ready for at that point in time.

Which makes it all the more disappointing that Cena has taken to going over so many young heels so convincingly in the last few years. It has become something of a running joke when WrestleMania approaches to try and work out which young bad guy Cena will defeat at 'Mania, and once the chuckles stop only frustration remains.

Of course, the booking team and WWE as a whole needs Cena to come out on top more often than most. He is the superhero of the company after all, so they will be booking him to win more than he loses. Still, these seven individuals could have come out looking a lot better than they did.

7. Eve Torres & Zack Ryder

The entire 'Embrace the Hate' story at the beginning of 2012 was a shambles from start to finish, and pretty much everyone involved came out of it looking awful, with the exception of Cena. Kane is fairly immune to ridiculousness so probably wasn't too hurt by it, but Zack Ryder and Eve Torres were truly destroyed by the time it was over.

Zack Ryder had somehow managed to get himself over in a huge way thanks to the power of social media, but once he won the United States Championship from Dolph Ziggler in late 2011 it was all to the firepit from there. Kane repeatedly injured him, and our new hero needed our old hero to save him. Along the way Cena kissed the object of his affection and generally made Zack look like a joke, something from which Ryder has never recovered.

The object of the affection mentioned above was Eve, and the worst aspects of John Cena the character came out in his all-too-frequent misogynistic rants at her. Slut-shaming has no place in this world, and getting an entire arena to chant 'hoeski' was particularly low.

The story did nothing but make Eve out to be a fairly toothless imbecile, the opposite of how she had been up until that point. The feud may have been Cena vs. Kane, but Eve and Ryder's involvement only hurt them both in the long term.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
