8 Amazing Wrestlers That Flopped In WCW

1. Bret Hart

How Good He Was: Best there was, is and ever will be. Seriously though, that easy layup aside, Bret Hart has always been considered one of pro wrestling's finest stars. A super worker if there ever was one, he was an ultra-reliable workhorse for the WWF between 1984-1997. Nobody can look back on the body of work the 'Hitman' can - he was superb with everybody.

The 'Screwjob' at Survivor Series 1997 clearly damaged him, but people genuinely believed that Bret would take WCW by storm when he jumped over. His natural talent combined with the fact he badly wanted to stick it to Vince McMahon? Yeah, he couldn't fail even if he tried to.

Why He Flopped: He did. That's the sad truth of it.

Eric Bischoff has to shoulder some of the blame for the way he booked Hart as soon as he had him. Putting him out there as little more than a special guest referee for Starrcade 1997 was poor. You've got one of the greatest in-ring technicians ever on the your books and that's what you do with his first PPV performance?!

However, Bret himself needed to look in the mirror too. He often looked totally demotivated and out of place on WCW programming. His matches still ranged between decent-excellent, but the fire in his belly had been doused. Being fair, things took an even more hellish personal turn following his brother Owen's tragic passing in 1999.

Overall, Hart in WCW was a struggle when it shouldn't have been.
