6. Sin Cara

This is a bizarre case in which WWE used multiple in-ring performers wrestling under the Lucha mask of Sin Cara, and eventually ruined the reputation of the man known as Mistico.

Considered a legend in CMLL, Mistico built his name with big-time performances in Mexico and New Japan Pro Wrestling, with WWE desperately trying to sign him multiple times throughout the mid-2000s (with Eddie Guerrero said to be leading his backstage cheerleaders). When he did finally sign with Vince McMahon’s behemoth in 2011, it was presented so grandly that WWE even held a special press conference in Mexico about the significance of his signing.

A mixture of wellness policy violations didn't help matters, but a series of high-profile in-ring botches by both Mistico and the myriad of other performers who wrestled under the hood led to Sin Cara being reduced to a global punchline for most of his time in the company. Since returning to the independents, Mistico has recovered his reputation in a huge way, rediscovering his mojo in CMLL and being embroiled in a recent feud with MJF in AEW.
