8 Baffling Questions From WWE SummerSlam 2018

6. Why Are Hammers Allowed At Ringside?

In absolutely no sporting contest - with the somewhat mandatory exception of the hammer throw - are hammers permitted, nor necessary. Pep Guardiola doesn't stalk the touchline cradling a ball-peen should a referee's decision go against his team, and nor does Novak Djokovic return aces with a mallet.

Wrestling, we're supposed to believe, is legitimate - so what's the deal? Why does the area outside the ring so often resemble a clearance sale at a hardware store?

Without their trademark sledgehammers, The Bludgeon Brothers don't have much going for their characters. But any floor manager worth their salt should have proverbial baby cats at the prospect of the beardy twosome assaulting their opponents with their weapons of choice. Because that's murder, right there.

At SummerSlam, again, the hammers came into play. Health and safety gone mad it may be, but surely it's time for Paige to put her foot down?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
