8 Best WCW Cruiserweight Championship Matches
3. Blitzkrieg Vs. Juventud Guerrera Vs. Rey Mysterio Vs. Psicosis - Nitro, April 19 1999
This four-way match is going to be loved by some, hated by others. To those that like non-stop action and aerials, it'll be a masterclass. To those that look down on the overuse of highspots, they'll see it as a psychology-lacking disaster of epic proportions.
I'm in the former camp on this one because, while far from perfect and at times sloppy, these four guys buster their humps for twenty minutes, giving maximum effort in an attempt to entertain the audience. There have been other Cruiserweight Title matches with much better structure and execution, yes, but few contain this amount of sweat and passion.
Rey and Juventud had lost their masks by this point and Psicosis wasn't far from losing his horned headwear, either. The cruiserweight division had certainly seen better days but, with the injection of fresh talent like the ultra-talented Blitzkrieg as well as the efforts of guys like Rey and Juvy, it was still one of the best things about WCW TV.
Trying to recap this match move for move would be lunacy, so I'll just say that the action is fast and furious and it contains all of the dives, big moves, flips and spills you would imagine. There's a little bit of the 'one or more guys sit around waiting for their cue' thing going on, but that pretty much comes with the territory in regards to multi-mans.
With Rey and Juvy outside the ring, Psicosis was left to knock off the most inexperienced man in the match with a diving top rope legdrop for the duke.
A tremendous effort by all involved, although it may not be your cup of tea.
