8 Best Wrestlers With The Worst Theme Song Lyrics

7. Chris Benoit - 'Whatever' (Our Lady Peace)

This is a prime example of an excellent existing theme being ruined by the addition of lyrics. The lyrics themselves aren’t bad, but their inclusion was entirely unnecessary.

It was clearly an effort on WWE's part to freshen up Benoit's music, which isn't a bad thing but a) Chris Benoit already had one of the best entrance themes in the instrumental 'Shooter' by Jim Johnston, and b) the use of Our Lady Peace as the band to deliver the new lyricised version of the song seemed completely random. The only meaningful connection between Benoit and that band seemed to be that they were both Canadian.

No hate against Our Lady Peace; they were very popular at that time. If you heard this song on the radio, completely divorced from any wrestling connotations, it's actually pretty good. But just because a song is good on the radio and good to listen to at home doesn't mean it's good for a wrestler to walk to the ring to.

WWE might have been better off leaving this track on the Anthologies and on Our Lady Peace's album, perhaps with the band coming in to perform the theme at special pay-per-views. But this song did not work as Benoit's main theme, and this was an instance where WWE messed with what should have been left well alone.

Stephanie Lim lives in London and has been watching wrestling since she was 4 years old, which is longer ago than she would like to admit. Her favourite wrestler of all time is Shawn Michaels, her favourite current wrestler is Kevin Owens, and she will always regret being too young to push her way through the crowd to shake Bret Hart's hand at a WWE event in 1993.
